Trekking to the summit craters of Etna

Enjoy an unforgettable adventure on the highest active volcano in Europe. Trust in Ashàra and come and discover Etna in all its beauty.

This excursion is aimed at moderately trained hikers, accustomed to moving on sandy or detrital ground, where there may be no paths and where the path can face sometimes exposed sections.
This excursion is also possible for children aged ten and over. It is a good idea to know your health conditions perfectly and make them present when driving, especially in cases of heart problems, asthma and dizziness.

At the discretion of the guide, the excursions may undergo variations or be interrupted if the weather conditions, environmental causes, or any volcanic risk, can represent any source of danger.

Details of the excursion

Meeting and departure from the Ashàra info point located at the Rifugio Sapienza Etna Sud.

After a short briefing, where the equipment will be provided, the excursion will begin which will lead us to the top at an altitude of 3300mt.
With the help of the cable car lifts and 4×4 unimog we will quickly gain altitude up to 2900m, near Torre del Filosofo and from here we will begin a trek entirely on foot of about 2 hours, making 2-3 intermediate breaks to enjoy the view, up to the summit craters.

We will travel through the lunar-like lava fields that will lead us under the summit craters.
With one last challenging climb we will reach the summit of Etna, the highest active volcano in Europe where we could admire the peculiarities that characterize the summit area.

We will carry out the descent on foot through sandbanks, we will visit other craters of different historical periods and we will cross a lava flow channel.

We will walk back to the upper station of the cable car which will take us back to the starting point.

Cost: € 100 per person (€ 50 excursion + € 50 cable car / unimog 4×4 ticket) *prices may vary*

The cost of the € 100 includes: trekking shoes, poles, helmet, insurance, volcanological guide, cable car tickets and 4×4 unimog

Necessary equipment to wear: medium / long socks, long pants, t-shirt, sweatshirt, windbreaker, hat, sunglasses, sunscreen and backpack with 2L water and packed lunch (hat, gloves, pile and scarf in the autumn / winter period)
